This year's ASEAN Young Manager Winner is Vong Bunintreavuth (37 years)
from Cambodia. He took over the award from last year's winner Mr. Sara
Lamsam of Thailand. The winner's trophy was directly presented by Mr.
Fuad A. Rahmany (Chairman of Capital Market and Financial Institution Supervisory
Agency, Ministry of Finance Indonesia) to Vong during the Farewell Dinner of
ASEAN Insurance Regulators and ASEAN Insurance Council Meeting last week in
Bali Indonesia. The runner ups are Chan Han Eng from Singapore and Wilfred Blackburn
from Thai. According to ASEAN Insurance Training & Research Institute the
organizer of the award nomination, there were 16 nominees from all ASEAN countries
and short-listed into 3 candidates. The 3 candidates were directly interviewed
by panel judges consisting of 7 prominent persons from the industry, and it
was not easy for the judges to make decision. Vong is the Managing Director
of Cambodian Reinsurance Company ("Cambodia Re"), whose major shareholder
is government. In the newly developing environment of Cambodia, Vong has proven
his leadership to build Cambodia Re right from the scratch 5 years ago. He has
proven his talent and leadership by coaching all his staff who have limited
insurance experience, to develop and grow Cambodia Re.
During the Farewell Dinner, the ASEAN School for Young Insurance Managers this
year, organized by Singapore College of Insurance, Certificates were presented
to the 58 students from various ASEAN Countries who completed their 6 days course.
The AIC Secretary General, Teddy Hailamsah said he has plans to look into structuring
the chairmanship of the coming ASEAN Insurance Congress next year to be chaired
by the winner of the ASEAN Young Manager Award, and the members can come from
the alumni of the 1st ASEAN School for Young Insurance Manager representing
their respective country. This format can be used for future membership of the
ASEAN Insurance Congress, which is dedicated to the young insurance leaders
to share their experience and grow together within the region. With this kind
of exposure the future ASEAN Insurance leaders will be more progressive and
lead the industry to a more vibrant future. (AIC/tnb)
